Jyco

The world's leading high performance TPV foam

Unlike open cell EPDM, closed cell JyFlex™ extruded TPV foam is virtually moisture-proof (<.1% absorption). It’s as soft and flexible as rubber, yet forms with the ease and economies of plastic. JyFlex™ overcomes EPDM’s historic issues with sound transmission, closing effort and long-term durability, not to mention environmental concerns. It consistently logs higher sealing integrity with lower closing forces, and superior performance in slam, vibration and cycle load tests measuring wear abrasion on seals and painted panels.

TPV parts can be more aesthetically pleasing than traditional rubber parts. They are easier to color match, and capable of meeting demanding OEM Black Standards. And unlike compounded EPDM, JyFlex™ contains no ingredients that will leach, bloom or migrate to the surface. EPDM compounds average 18 additives. JyFlex™ averages three.

       Keys to TPV Performance

  • Discrete elastomer morphology, ca 1 micron
  • Good interfacial control between continuous and dispersed phases
  • Uniform and complete cross-linking in the rubber phase
  • Composition: > 50% EPDM

EPDM Compound actually contains no more than 35% EPDM. The rest is carbon black filler and an average of 15 other additives. Ironically, high performance TPV contains more EPDM than does EPDM Compound. For example, JyFlex™ TPV is 80% EPDM, with most of the remainder being polypropylene, and occasionally one or two performance-related additives for a specific application. Carbon black is added only as a colorant.
